Free London

by Maddalena Dottori

We all know how our beloved capital can be terribly expensive at times, especially for cash-poor students; so this week we have decided to review things you can do and places you can go for free (or for just a couple of quid, promise!)

We went to an exciting new open-mic night in Brixton at the Upstairs @ The Ritzy. This intimate music venue is – you guessed it – just above The Ritzy, a terrific independent cinema just off Coldharbour Lane and it is completely free.

Another amazing cinema we went to check out for you is the Roxy Bar and Screen in Borough. Certainly an interesting concept, Roxy is a bar/restaurant and cinema venue, so for as little as £3 you can watch a new film release whist eating or sipping on one of their delicious yet ridiculously cheap cocktails.

Logging onto tvrecordings.com, you can book free tickets for live recordings of various TV or radio shows, including Harry Hill’s TV Burps and Russell Howard’s Good News.

Arts London News's Hannah Vickers attended a free political comedy show by BBC stand-up comic Andy Zaltzman, letting us know the verdict.

Why not visit - for free - the Royal Festival Hall currently playing host to the Arts by Offenders exhibition. The fantastic exhibit, showcasing artwork made by prisoners and UK immigrant detainees, has been curated by six female inmates.

On a totally different note, Liz Marchetti decided to review a meditation and relaxation workshop in North London. Attending these Wednesday classes, as Liz aptly put it: "People of all races and religions will have the opportunity to achieve a state of inner peace without spending a penny."

Hasta Luego!
