Film review: This Is It

by Akilah Russell

Michael Jackson [Photo courtesy of image.net]Since his death earlier this year, the number of Michael Jackson's fans - already in their millions - has increasedexponentially.

And even if you were sceptic about his personal life, it is clear that his undeniable music is what his legacy will leave in his wake, and documentary motion picture This is it, is the very illustration of why he was loved by so many.

It depicts Michael in his element as he rehearsed for his up and coming UK tour of the same name, showing in chronological order how the sold out shows would have looked to an audience.

Not only does it give those who might never have seen the extravaganza a chance too, it also gives a fly on the wall look at how the man of many mysteries was behind the scenes.

Notoriously shy in interviews, under the discreet watch of the cameras the real Michael Jackson appeared in the place he confessed he felt ‘‘most comfortable’’ – the stage.

Expect to laugh out loud at times as Michael not only provides entertainment with his performances, but with his light hearted sense of humour and serious but hilarious blunt side, especially when interacting with his band throughout the film.

Beat it, Billie Jean, and Thriller are just some of the treats that you will get, and do not be surprised if the person sitting next to you breaks out into an impromptu sing along as the feeling of actually being at the real concert can become overwhelming!

Only out for two weeks, This is it is really Michael Jackson’s ‘‘last passionate gift to his fans’’, so go and get yours!

In cinemas nationwide from October 28.
