Sports and fashion
L’uomo Vogue cover star Kobe Bryant is just another example of how fashion publications have sport as one of their main inspirations.
Even American Vogue have their Body Issue every year, which last year featured supermodel Gisele on the cover alongside NBA player LeBron James.
It is clear as well, that sports publications are becoming glossier, just look at last month’s ESPN magazine, host of another body issue, this time with sexy shots of different athletes showing off their physiques.
It might come as no surprise that fashionistas/editors are keen for some ‘sport’ in their collections or publications, because what fashion designers want is a nice body to show off their clothes, and that could be a professional model, a good looking football player in a tailored suit or a sexy tennis player wearing Balmain shoulder pads.
Anna Wintour's close friendship with Roger Federer or David Beckham's underwear ads for Armani are just another example of how the world of sports and fashion are much closer than we thought.
And I’m pretty sure come the next fashion shows in New York, London, Paris and Milan, sporting trends will certainly be one of their most important influences.
