Eat for a fiver- Pizza Naan
Pizza has always been a favourite amongst students for its ease, convenience and most importantly for its satisfying comfort factor. However, a good quality pizza isn’t the cheapest meal and most of the cheaper alternatives aren’t very healthy – or tasty.
So, thanks to Nigella Lawson, Madeleine Hamilton has found a great alternative to the traditonal student feel-good favourite – Pizza Naan! It’s so simple to make and yet can be such a great treat, especially on those nights when you’re feeling too lazy to cook.
Ingredients
- 1 shop-bought naan (£0.58 – Tesco’s)
- 2 teaspoons tomato pulp from a jar (which I’ve replaced with puree, but you can use any tomato-based sauce) (Puree: £0.25 - £0.40)
- 70g button mushrooms (£1.00 – Tesco’s)
- 75g cheddar (£0.40 – M&S)
- One pinch dried thyme (one jar is £0.58)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 220C/gas mark 7.
1 Lay the naan on a lined baking sheet. Spread the tomato puree/tomato sauce mix over the naan.
2 Scatter the mushrooms on top and sprinkle with the chopped cheese, before finally adding the dried thyme.
3 Finally, cook in the oven for about five minutes, by which time the cheese should be bubbling and melted.
The great thing about this recipe is that you can make so many different variations by using alternative ingredients. Naan’s are also much tastier than the traditional shop-bought pizza base. It’s sure to warm you up at this time of year. So, thanks Nigella!
