Reviews: Student Bowling Night

by Hannah Vickers

Student Bowling Night at Bloomsbury LanesBloomsbury Lanes is a small 50’s themed bowling alley underneath the Tavistock Hotel on Bedford way. The whole place, right down to the furniture, including the score screens, all have that retro touch.

The place is made up of a large bar with separate food area where you then have a small but comfortable seating area, the bowling alley and other private rooms that you can hire out for karaoke or a private function.

Every Tuesday, from 9 pm onwards, Bloomsbury Lanes play host to Strike Night, where students can bowl for £3 a game, which compared to your local chain of Mega Bowls, is a big discount.

The food prices range from £4.50 to £9.00 but the portions are large, so you definitely get your money’s worth.

The place seemed to be very popular with students and office workers on a night out and would be a lot of fun to go with a big group of friends.

The atmosphere is really friendly, with everyone laughing and having a great time and many singing along to the 80’s classics that we all know and love.

The highlight of the place for me, was the lack of the normal stale horrible smell that chain bowling alleys normally greet you with: here it’s been replaced with the smell of fresh food.

Also there are no arcade games darkening the corners of the room which was nice to see, instead they have kept the 50’s theme going by having a space invaders game, table football and a pool table.

Overall, I thought that the service of the place was great, because it’s not a chain it can give a more personal service and that’s what makes it such a fun place to be.
