Ultimately a lot of fun

Catch it if you can - Ultimate Frisbee[Alistair Bingley]Forget football, Ultimate Frisbee is the latest craze to sweep UAL.

It rarely falls victim to the weather as it can be played all year round on the beach, in the park and even indoors. So join the fun and chuck a frisbee around to your heart’s content.

But what is Ultimate Frisbee? Captain of the UAL Ultimate Frisbee society Benedict Butterworth, describes the game as: “Netball meets American football” except with a frisbee.

Pick up the basics of the game and learn the different throws and moves, as there is more than one way you can throw a Frisbee.

Mixed teams of seven to eleven play against each, the aim being to score the most points within a 15 minute time limit.

Points are scored by successfully throwing the frisbee between players without running, whilst in possession and catching it in the oppositions’ end. The game is a non-contact sport and there are no referees. The players referee themselves which adds a social element, taking off the competitive edge.

Tournaments with other universities take place over weekends, so it’s a great way to spend a Saturday. Be part of the team and represent UAL at the next upcoming indoor tournament Great Barr Crawl taking place in Nottingham from January 30-31, 2010.

If you are looking to have some fun all year round, it is the only sports society that keeps going into the summer term.
