The much anticipated New Moon is finally here

by Dan Scagnelli

The werewolfsTwilight : New Moon is another film installment of the teen vampire franchise, The Twilight Saga.

Based on the popular book series by Stephenie Meyer, the first film in the series was a global success at the box office and this year’s sequel has been eagerly anticipated.

In this movie, Bella Swan, (Kristen Stewart) is having problems with her 109-year old vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson.) And a native American werewolf, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) has his heart set on winning her affections.

Jacob’s six-pack got the biggest whoop from the girl sitting behind me about midway through – the atmosphere in the cinema was a bit like what I imagine it to be like at a Chippendale's show.

The special effects for the werewolf scenes were impressive, but the action in the film was pretty tame. It is hard to bring something new to a vampire movie, but diluting the formula with teen love drama does not do the genre in general, any favours.

Unlike HBO series True Blood, a considerably more hardcore exploration into a world where vampires and humans live together, the romance in New Moon makes it soppy. It comes across as Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Dawson’s Creek.
