Editors blog
This week in the newsroom has not been as stressful for the reviews section as the previous five weeks.
The reason for this is that we already have the copy for print submitted by the writers.
My assistant Shari and I have been subbing the copy as well as meeting the general deadlines of the newsroom.
Seeing what it takes to make a newspaper work is massive, in terms of all the effort made by every team member, from the picture desk to the managing editor.
I am grateful that I had the opportunity to be an editor, as it has made me absolutely positive that I never want to be an editor!
I would say that the best experience of being a reviews editor is reading what my writers have experienced from their point of view.
A review is their personal experience from a professional point of view, making their review objective as well as insightful.
Opportunity
Shari and I have worked both independently and together to make the reviews section work, and we have both pulled our weight, often under pressing circumstances!
The other positive part of working in the Newsroom was having the opportunity to get to know my classmates a little better.
For the last year and a half, I have had little interaction with my them as we were previously in a classroom setting.
This term we were forced to work in an office type interactive setting.
I am glad the time is coming to an end, as I have had a taste of sweet and bitter fruit as a reviews editor, and I am very grateful that I was given the experience.
