by Claire Danaher

UAL Women's football team pose pre matchThe University of the Arts London (UAL) women’s football team is suffering from a shortage of players for their games on Wednesday afternoons.

This has meant that they‘ve had to concede matches, losing vital points.

The team’s captain, Rosie Bee said: “The games were cancelled due to a lack of players, we only manage to scrape about seven players each week and we need eleven. It’s a shame as the girls who are involved are really committed.”

Slim chance

Rosie added, “We need girls who are interested and can play every week on a Wednesday afternoon. At the moment a lot of the girls have lectures so aren’t free to play.”

The team is currently ranked third in the table and hold a slim chance of catching the runaway leaders, Kings College, who have a lead of six points over their nearest rivals, Royal Free and University Medical school.

UAL lost their first match of the new year in a 5-0 defeat at Brunel University however they turned things around and won only their second match of the season with a 1-0 victory at home to London Metropolitan.

Since then they have had a match cancelled by the University of East London, who forfeited the game to give UAL the points.

Although since the team have also had to forfeit games themself and concede points due to a lack of players.

Opportunities for new players

The team is always looking for new players so they can compete each week.

“If people want to get involved they can contact myself or Bettina, the President of the team, or even just come along to training which is on every Monday at Stepney Green, from six until eight,” said Rosie.

Their next match is on March 3, at home to University of East London. If you want to get involved then log on to www.suarts.org for contact details or the UAL women’s football Facebook page.
