Ultimate and Frisbee are not two words that you would normally associate with one another. A game often played by ten year-old children, making the sport ‘Ultimate’ was an idea developed by Wimbledon student, Benedict Buttersworth and thus University of the Arts London Ultimate Frisbee Society was born.
A fun and inventive way to take sport to the next level the players of Ultimate Frisbee really do take the game seriously, but more importantly, they have fun.
Beginning only last year the group has expanded over the last three terms and now has between 15-25 competitors every week, meeting in Kennington Park for a few hours for good old- fashion youthful entertainment.
Alternative to summer sports
One of the few societies that continues through the summer term, it seems apt that this game can used on a more professional level when summer parks are over run with students wanting to enjoy themselves.
Unlike some sports, which are refereed and often limited to a single sex, Ultimate Frisbee is a free for all. Mixed sex and fair play the participants enjoy varied abilities and welcome all new comes with open arms, or in the case of some players a friendly piggy-back!
The most enjoyable thing about Ultimate Frisbee is that if you’re not a keen sportsman and you just want a place to meet new people, whilst taking the opportunity to get fit, then Ultimate Frisbee’s inviting nature makes it hard to resist this as cool way to start your summer.
