Turner nomination and Arts Award for CSM students

by Martin Hines

The shortlist for the 2010 Turner Prize has revealed that Central Saint Martins (CSM) alumni, Dexter Dalwood, is in the running for the prize.

Dalwood, 49, is the bookies' favourite to win the £40,000 prize.

He is famous for painting famous people in odd locations, such as the greenhouse of Kurt Cobain, and the interior of Jackie Onassis's yacht.

On being nominated, Dalwood said: "History is a construction, a fiction, and I am constructing histories from a subjective view, which is no more or no less real than any of the other attempts to describe that time or that event."

Arts Award

Meanwhile, a student has been crowned winner of the Arts Award at the Young Scot Awards 2010.

Neil Young, 24, who is currently studying MA Menswear at CSM, is no stranger to picking up accolades having also been named Graduate Of The Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards last year.

Young, who has worked for Calvin Klein, said: "I never thought I'd win something like this."
