LCF students wigs a 'crowning glory'

by Scarlett Archer

A collection of Hogarthian wigs created by London College of Fashion students has been named the ''crowning glory'' of the Sir John Soane’s Museum’s annual fund-raising event.

The BA Make Up and Prosthetics for Performance students designed the collection of “wild and whacky” Hogarthian wigs, inspired by the 18th century ambiance of Sir John Soane’s Museum.

The students were given the Hogarthian theme as a springboard for a creative collaboration project with the museum to design a collection of different wigs to cater for the party’s individual members of staff including; 20 waiters, doormen, and cloakroom attendents.

The first Sarcophagus Party was “based on an extraordinary event hosted by Soane in 1825 to celebrate and display his acquisition of the ancient Egyptian sarcophagus of Seti I”, said Director of the Museum, Tim Knox.

The time to shine

Following the same tradition, Sir John Soane’s Museum now holds an annual Sarcophagus party to help raise funds for its major restoration project, 'Opening up the Soane'.

The museum will be lit by 300 candles during the event and students from the London College of Fashion will have the chance to showcase their talent to some of the most influential and persuasive people from the world of art and design.

The wigs will be the “crowning glory” to the party, said Knox.

It is the second year that the musuem and LCF have collaborated in this way.

The Museum’s Head of Education, Beth Walker is adamant that the work of the LCF students “brings the relevance of the Soane to the very heart of its annual fundraising event.”
