Jalebi Junction | Cafe Review

by Selina Makin

Jalebi being cooked.Just outside of the Big Smoke is Southall, a town known to the Indian community in London as ‘Little India’.

At the heart of the area lies Broadway, a long road bustling with food, shops, smells and sounds mimicking the Punjab region in India.

Jalebi Junction, is a small café wedged in between the sari shops, it’s famous for the beloved Indian pastry, ‘Jalebi’.

These orange-twisted sweets are made fresh on the street outside this café throughout the day by squeezing the batter through a tube in an intertwined pattern.

It is then placed into a large pan of oil where it fries for a few minutes, it is then covered in syrup and best eaten warmed.

They’re sold by weight and served in boxes, as are the other array of cake-type delights on offer at this café.

Hot snacks such as samosas and pakoras can also be enjoyed, completed with a cup of masala tea or a sweet lassi.

Although Southall is a little out of the way.

It’s worth taking a trip to this vibrant part of Greater London to try the cuisine on offer, it’s very affordable and make a great day out , even if it does pile on the pounds!
