Gaga puts the fashion back into pop
Pop is cool again.
The early noughties weren’t a particularly good time for music fashion, when boring skinny-jean wearing indie bands dominated the charts, but have a look at the main winner at this year’s Brit Awards and tell me Pop is not back with a bang.
We are talking about Lady GaGa, who won three awards at this year’s Brits.
Wearing a three-tiered white dress and a very tall white wig, she is already an iconic pop star.
Recently pop music fashion has come back; thanks to young girls with an electro-pop vibe, such as La Roux, Little Boots and GaGa herself.
Candy for our eyes
Every video clip from Gaga is candy for our eyes, and when Paparazzi was released you could see the smile on peoples faces who were missing crucifixes on fire (Madonna), supermodels in a bathtub (George Michael) or just some random androgyny with killer beats (Eurythmics).
Fashion has played an important part in this pop renaissance.
The time when pop artists were just lemmings following each other is definitely over.
Even X-Factor judges Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue seemed to take their dress senses very seriously.
Who cares if Joe McElderry won or not, everybody wanted to see who came up with the most extravagant dress.
Back to Gaga; she had an impressive year in 2009, scoring several number ones across the globe, and pushing her edgy costumes down the throats of people who may never have heard of the late Alexander McQueen.
In a way, she did what Madonna did best, taking something underground and make it mainstream.
Let’s enjoy this colourful pop renaissance before it finishes again, and some advice from the Lady herself: "Just Dance’"
