Preparing for your degree show
The Degree Show programme started just three- years ago when it was clear that third-year students needed assistance in getting ready for their end of year show.
The Enterprise Centre for Creative Arts (ECCA) leads the programme and pulls together partners from across the University to deliver it.
Throughout the month of February; almost 30 free events take place focusing on funding, sponsorship, networking, self-promotion, getting press, pricing your work and much more to get students to get the most out of their final degree show.
The aim is to get students to understand how to be able to launch themselves after their show, whether it’s working freelance or securing a job.
Students already get support with producing the show but not the skills around things like promoting your show, writing press releases and how to attract your audience. There are departments at the university that can supply all this, so we’ve pulled it together for this programme.
While aiding third-year students, it is not exclusively for them, as first and second year students can attend. Fabbri explains:
Most creative people will be involved in putting on a show, even if it’s in the future, so this is useful for first years and graduates too. Preparing for your Degree Show has been incredibly popular over the last two years, and this year we’re building on this, by bringing in more great speakers and offering a higher number of practical workshops.
On February 23, Success Stories – Alumni Degree Shows see former University of Arts students come back to explain how they went about their degree show and managed to continue into the industry.
Other workshops include: designing postcards and business cards, helping you promote yourself before and during your degree shows, portfolio reviews, how to network and how to cost and price your work.
The degree show provides invaluable information, advice and feedback on how to sell yourself and your work when it comes to your final degree show.
The Degree show finishes on Feb 28, for full event listings and to book your free place on any of the events, visit: www.arts.ac.uk/yourdegreeshow
