The hardship of Palestine

by David Shaw

The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) is a diplomatic Palestinian lead group that works with local coordinators to help the people of Palestine cope with the Israeli occupation of their country.

ISM gained international attention after Rachel Corrie, an American volunteer was killed by the Israeli Army in March 2003. The widespread media coverage of her death put the spotlight on the ongoing Palestinian/Israeli conflicts and the role of the Israeli Army.

LCC photojournalist David Shaw recently joined ISM in the West Bank, Palestine to document the daily hardships the Palestinians are still facing today. From walking children to school safely everyday to attending demonstrations, Shaw captured the Palestinian spirit of freedom and defiance.
