Ice Bar | Bar review

★★★★✰

two girls drinking from ice cups in Ice BarThe superb Ice Hotel in Lapland, with its unique ice sculptures, is one place that I’ve always dreamed of visiting.

But dream no longer, just go to Mayfair, where yet another spectacular display has been created for the capital; its very own permanent ice sculptured bar, aptly named Ice Bar.

Created out of the crystal clear ice harvested specially from the frozen Torne River in Jukkasj ärvi, Northern Sweden, the Ice Bar resembles a scene from Narnia’s White Witch’s home.

With a blast of colourful lights shining through the carved ice blocks on the walls and around the bar, it presents yellows, greens, blues and violets often associated with the Northern Lights.

The beautiful hues of colours add a natural spectacle of vibrancy to the meticulously crafted ice sculptured fencing, bottles and figures. Its hard to believe that each year, the entire scene is re-created.

The -5C room temperature, and the enchanting surroundings effortlessly re-create a piece of Lapla

nd in London.

Being so cold, everyone is required to wear a thermal hooded cape to keep you warm and s

nug in the below zero temperatures. For this reason each party is restricted to a 40-minute time slot, varying at different prices according on the day and times.

Entry costs start at £12.50 when booked in advanced and peak at £24 during the champagne slot. All entry prices include a complimentary drink of your choice, with non-alcoholic re-fills costing £3.50, alcoholic re-fills setting you back £6.50, or alternatively you can opt for champagne re-fills for £8.50.

All drinks are served in an ice glass, keeping in touch with the theme, and new ice glasses are avaliable for an added cost of £4.00.

Evidently, a visit to the Ice Bar isn't a cheap one, but then this isn't your average bar. It’s a unique experience, in an atmospheric surrounding. It’s the perfect treat for the festive season, even if it is open all year round!
