LCC alumni to give journalism lectures

The successful alumni of LCC, featuring experienced journalists, will be giving talks to students until May 31, starting with the editor of the Press Gazette, Dominic Ponsford, speaking at the street lecture theatre on May 8. 

Students are welcome to attend the talks, which will be hosted by a number of different editors and experienced journalists in the industry, including the founder and editor of Stylist, Lisa Smosarksi, and the Hollywood editor of OK! Magazine, Sean Lynn.

Fleur Britten, an LCC journalism post-graduate alumni and senior commissioning editor of the Sunday Times style, kicked off the talks last week, and tonight, Dominic Ponsford will be speaking and answering questions about the Leveson enquiry.

The editor of the Press Gazette will give his talk at the street lecture theatre from 6-7pm on phone hacking and the media post Leveson.

Paul Charman, head of the BA Journalism course at LCC said: “It is invaluable for us to hear from graduates who get careers in the industry that come back to talk to us about the changing industry today – something Murdoch refers to as ‘disruptive technology’.

“We are hugely grateful for past students to come and talk to us and the students will gain a lot from it,” he added.

The talks could be highly beneficial for students taking the practical journalism current affairs exam as well as other journalism and media students wanting advice on how to kick start their careers in these competitive industries.

May 10 - Alan Rutter, LCC journalism post-graduate alumni and digital consultant to Condé Nast creating iPad editions for UK Wired, GQ, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Time Out, and former online editor for Time Out - 10am Main Lecture Theatre

May 17 - Sean Lynn, freelance media consultant and Hollywood editor at OK! Magazine - 11am Main Lecture Theatre

May 24 - Ailsa Leslie, LCC journalism alumni and commissioning editor at the Daily Mail - 10am Main Lecture Theatre

May 31 - Lisa Smosarksi, LCC journalism alumni and founder of Stylist - 11.30am Main Lecture Theatre
