Students set up shop in LCC
Past and present University of the Arts students will be selling their work this week at the Arts Market in the London College of Communication foyer.
There are stalls selling quirky clothes, hand-stitched accessories, furniture, hand-bound books and other creative items.
Lucy Maslin, 20, and Kirsty Tizzard, 21, are both on the Graphics and Media Design BA course at LCC.
They are sharing a stall selling embroidered cushions, handmade cards, and other delicately crafted objects.
Maslin says: “We had a stall at the Chelsea alumni fair last summer and needed to make a bit of money, so we thought we’d do it again. It’s good for getting your work out there.”
Their market neighbour Ovannak You, 31, graduated in Surface Design and is now working as a freelance designer.
You’s pillow cases, bags and tea-towels have been screen printed in vibrant colours and are selling for between £10 and £20.
Vicky Scales, in her second year of a BA Books Arts course, has laid out a selection of hand-made books.
A visual feast – her collection includes Japanese bound journals, her ‘patterned journals,’ which are decorated with intricate ink designs, and sky-blue leather journals secured with ribbon. They cost between £2 and £10.
In the final year of a Textiles BA at Chelsea College of Art and Design, Felicity McDonald-Bing has displayed her romantic collection of heart-shaped clothes pegs (£1.50), vintage bead necklaces and bees wax candles amongst other quaint pieces.
The market is on until Thursday March 11.
Opening times:
