Your Views: Blackboard
Blackboard is a web-based course management system used at many universities, including UAL. It is used as a communicative tool for staff to regularly upload content for students providing a collection of materials regarding their course such as assessments, handouts, course documentations and student grades.
This week we asked whether you use the system regularly and your thoughts on Blackboard.
"It’s quite useful to look at the work briefs, but I don’t use it all the time. Because I don’t have time to check it in the mornings, if lectures aren’t on, I wouldn’t know, so it’s not useful in that sense."
Holly Walker 19, BA Textiles Design, CSM
Jenny Paltanwala, 28, MA Enterprise Management for Creative Arts, LCC
"I don't think I can survive without using it. The only bad thing is the layout is cluttered up. It should be less elaborate and much more simple. We can access the library through it so that’s good. Day-to-day info and updates are very useful as well. It is also useful for tutors to post things that they forgot during lessons, or add things like a blog. But, based on last two years of experience, it has some inactive features, which is illogical. Make it work or take it out of the menu."
Savvas Ameridis, 28, BA Menswear, LCF
Oliver Loyd, 22, BA Fine Art Painting, Wimbledon
"If Blackboard was uploaded regularly, more people would use it to check it."
Daisy Jane, 24, BA Sculpture, Camberwell
"I only just opened my Blackboard account. I did a whole year without going on Blackboard because I didn’t know how to log on or use it but now that I can get on it I’m getting used to it and it’s really useful."
Katie Beveridge, 20, BA Graphic Design, CSM
"I'd prefer Twitter to be the 'Blackboard'. Do you get the idea?"
Tariel Khadzhyshvili, 21, BA Digital Media Design, LCC
