SU Blog: Blueprint bar launch

In the early hours of this morning you’ll have found out who our new Government is going to be for the year, but despite our best spying efforts, the SU doesn’t know who that’ll be.

In the meantime it’s our pleasure to chat about things closer to home.

Big news is the launch of the brand new Student Hub at 272 High Holborn, which takes up the bottom three floors of the building and includes all the university's student facing services (Accomodation, Advice, Counselling, Finance and Funding), a bigger Learning Zone working alongside Creative Careers and of course us, the Student’s Union.

We've got our new central office with dedicated space for our student volunteers, space for our student radio station, a shiny new activities studio, a new flagship student gallery, our first ever SU Shop and our awesome new bar – Blueprint.

On a side note – interestingly we’re not the first drinking hole on this site with blue in the title – in medieval times the George and Blue Boar stood on this site.

It was infamous as the spot condemned criminals stopped at for a last drink on the way to their execution!

We haven’t seen any spooks yet, but doubtless this will make for some interesting tales come Halloween.

This and other tales of our new local area can be explored for free on local walks run several times a week by InHolborn.

Why not pop by for some historical interest, then hang out in the bar to ponder your new expertise.

We’re pleased to finally have a physical retail outlet, which sees us selling a full range of hoodies and T-shirts, stationery, food, snacks and drinks.

Both the shops goods and bar prices are cheaper than ever, with lots of exciting offers.

New menu 

There’s a new menu too, changed in response to your feedback, with some budget jam sandwiches, a primary school lunch classic and a tempting range of sweets.

We’ve also got a more Pretstyle sandwich/salad range freshly prepared, ready for you to grab and go.

We’ll soon be fully operational with a new range of exciting offers including a new range of smoothies and frappucinos.

Pitchers of beer – buy four pints for the price of three and spirits offers – double up on house spirits for only £1!

Although not totally complete at the point of writing, we’re well on the way. Students are using it and the feedback is really positive.

However we’re expecting things to be much more polished ready for our big launch event on May 25 at Blueprint SU Bar, Hub 272 High Holborn.

As ever, the new bar and spaces are yours to use, and we want people to get in touch and organise their own events.

In other news, UAL delegates attended the National Union of Students annual conference and successfully passed through motions calling for protected funding for arts education, and a clamp down on the exploitation of unpaid interns.
