With the academic year fast approaching its climax, deadlines being met and the thought of a long summer in London on the horizon, it would be easy to think that all is nearly over at UAL for the year.

How wrong you are!

Arts Legends Sports Weekend

On Saturday, 15 May, 2010, history will be made with the first ever UAL old boys/girls sports event, bringing together past and present students for one day, to battle it out on the sports field.

Football, rugby, netball and hockey will all play in this highly anticipated day, with ex-students making up the old boys/girls teams, to play against the current crop of UAL teams.

With alumni students flying in from France, Denmark, Japan, Wales and Scotland, just for this event, you can be sure it’s going to be one to remember and one that the alumni certainly aren’t taking lightly.

A total of 122 competitors will be taking part, with many of those putting on the Arts shirt for the first time in 2-3 years and in one case 14 years! Rugby kicks things off at 12.30pm, with hockey starting at 1.30pm.

Then netball takes to the court at 2.30pm leaving football to play the final game at 3.30pm.

Spectators can come and enjoy the day by purchasing a ticket for £5, either on the day at the event, or in advance at the Students Union Office in High Holborn.

Want to come and join the celebrations in the evening? Then join us at the LCC Darkroom bar, opening especially for this event and for the awards.

Cheap entry, cheap drinks, fun and games, and great music; it’s a perfect Saturday night for all. If you missed the opportunity to watch the matches at Chiswick Sports grounds during the day, then fear not, we will have the highlights of the matches for you on the big screen in the bar.

Sports and Societies Annual Federation Ball

The annual federation ball is fast approaching and with the event now nearly sold out, it is set to be a classic. To celebrate a year in student activities, this event brings students together, to reminisce, laugh and cheer everything that has gone on during 2009/2010.

Formal dress and a fantastic three-course sit down meal gets the night underway, with eight Students’ Union awards (five new awards for 2010) being handed out to high achieving clubs, societies and individuals.

After desert is the chance for individual sports clubs and societies to hand out their own awards in recognition of individual members successes this year. Who will win Players Player of the season? Best new society member? Biggest impact?

With the formal part of the evening concluding at around 10pm, the venue then turns into a wonderfully intimate setting, with the DJ taking to the stage for an evening of dancing, celebrating or commiserating.

There is still time to be involved, get online and snap up the final few tickets.
