SEE launches new bursaries
The Student Enterprise and Employability (SEE) service at UAL has introduced two new bursaries in a bid to give financial aid to students and graduates visiting festivals or exhibiting works.
The first bursary, which ranges from £50 to £500 to cover up to 50 pe
r cent of total costs, is to help supplement travel, exhibition and submission costs. This includes money spent on exhibiting at festivals, organised exhibitions and trade shows.
The second bursary, the go&SEE bursary, ranging from £50 to £200, focuses on showcasing research. Its aim is to help the student or graduate cover the cost of visiting national or international trade shows, exhibitions or festivals.
Additionally, the SEE&do bursary ranges from £100 to £500, covers showcasing and exhibiting costs incurred by the student or graduate. The bursary covers up to 50 per cent of the costs incurred by showcasing work at national or international events.
“We are only able to fund one person per festival or trade show, and the applications are open until August 2012 after which we'll be reviewing the scheme for 2012/13,” said a spokesperson for the scheme.
He continued: “Those who are successful will be asked to complete a report telling us about their experiences at the events, as we think this kind of information will be useful to other students pursuing similar careers.”
The bursaries are aimed at helping students at the start of their careers in the creative arts, allowing them to network and showcase work to the industry. They come as part of the £9,000 available in support to UAL students, graduates and staff.
SEE recommends applying at least four weeks prior to the exhibition date for the application form to be processed.
