UAL's Fashion Society is growing
RD Franks in Oxford Circus is heaven to magazine lovers and home to the UAL Fashion Society who host their monthly magazine club uniting creative people from all backgrounds over a mutual love for fashion and provide a platform for networking and industry experience. Each month the club focus on one issue of a magazine in the context of other industry concerns.
Established last year, the club saw a record number of attendees this month voicing their thoughts on the current issue of Lula magazine.
Members came in cute attire to match Lula’s ethereal imagery and girly styling by editor Leith Clark and tucked into miniature cupcakes and lemon drizzle loaf while discussing the mix of editorial and photography.
The focus of this issue was on red-haired beauty Karen Elson; all models featured in fashion shoots had red hair and the editorial focus on art and fashion movements coming out of Elson’s stomping grounds Nashville and New York.
Magazine talk
The talk was also broadened to include Twin magazine, which was launched this month by Becky Smith, former art director at Lula. The evening was capped off with cocktails at Graphic bar in Soho and the announcement of the Fashion Society’s logo competition.
The winning design by Ana Nicolau looks set to become a modern classic; winning £30 worth of ASOS vouchers and a free copy of Industry Insider magazine 10 Woman for her efforts. Upon winning Nicolau said: “I’m really excited to see UAL Fashion Society develop and take on new projects, it’s been great to get involved.”
Catch UAL Fashion Society’s monthly magazine club every third Wednesday of the month during term time. Next one will be on January 20, 2010 looking at fashion and lifestyle magazine V at RD Franks from 6-8pm. If you can’t wait that long to get your fashion fix come along to the Christmas party on 9 December, 6pm at Brown Sugar, 146 High Holborn, WC1V 6PG.
