Your Views: Your General Election vote

by UAL Voices Team

Now the 2010 General Election campaign has finished, Arts London News has been asking students who they were going to vote for and which proposals in particular influenced their decisions

Labour just so Conservatives don’t win, I don’t think the country needs that. I would have voted for the Lib Dems because I think it’s a good alternative to what we have now but my vote wouldn’t really count if I voted
for them.
Eamon Lavery, Fine Arts, Wimbledon College of Art

The environment is a big concern for me, a lot needs to be done to save our planet for
future generations. This is why I will be voting for the Green Party. Also they aim to
build more quality council homes for those who may not be able to buy.
Jane Phillips, LCF, MA Fashion and Film

Lib Dems, definitely not Conservative as they are making cut backsin a lot of key areas including education. I’ve always stood for Labour but the Lib Dems are putting more power back in to the community.
Katy Leach, LCC, Media Practice

Labour, as they believe in high taxes in order for free services to remain free. Max Pevsner,
LCC, GraphicDesign

Conservative. It seems over the last couple of years it’s become harder for people to gain places at university, with their proposed 10,000 new university places this should help a lot of young people.
Florence Coleman, Chelsea College of Art, Graphic DesignCommunication

Lib Dems. Best of a bad bunch, I don’t think people have learnt their lesson yet by voting for the same party at each election. If you want real change vote Liberal Democrats.
Noor Mula, LCC, Animation

The British National Party, because I would love to see true British values restored and because immigration is becoming an even bigger problem. The BNP have a strong policy for this.
Anonymous, LCC, PR and Advertising

My political allegiance came into question once I realised that the Labour Party were using Eddie Izzard in their political broadcast. If only I could vote for Henri de Saint-Simon, then maybe politics wouldn’t smell so bad. My voting this year will basically be a fight to avoid a Tory, middle class government. Enough said.
Katie Reddington, CSM, Fashion History and Theory

Liberal Democrats. While all the key parties have their flaws, I feel Nick Clegg has the least of the parties. If his honest approach at the debates continues, he has it in the bag.
Alex O’Brien, CSM, Fashion Communication

The Lib Dems, as I wouldn’t want Tories to win. It would normally be
Labour but I have lost all confidence in them.
Daniel Uwgbae, LCC, Media and Cultural Studies

The Liberal Democrats, purely because of how much they have done for my home constituency of Romsey in Hampshire and how much our MP Sandra Gidley has done for us. Our town is quite a rural one, and they understand that and aren't trying to change it to become how other parties may want it to.
